- ItemRecords Management Practices among Estate and Property Managers in Samaru Community and its Environment in Sabon-Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State,(2023)The study investigated the records management practice by the estate and property managers in Samaru community and its environments in Sabon -Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The research was guided by the objectives on types of records generated by estate and property managers, how records are generated and the types of facilities use for records storage by the estate and property managers. Research method adopted is quantitative with survey research design approach; while the population is eighty nine (89). Enumerative sampling was used by selecting all the population in the study. Questionnaire was used for data collection; the data collected were quantified and analyzed using frequency counts, percentages and discussion. Some of the findings from the analysis revealed that the types of records generated by the estate and property managers include; receipts and invoices, records of property inventory, records of tenants' profiles etc., records are generated in the process of issuing receipts, documenting of tenants' profiles, inventory of properties etc., and the facilities used for records storage include; files cabinets, cupboards, and boxes etc. Some of the recommendations proffered include; that the Association of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers make it a policy for each of its members to adapt to the use of information and communication technology and the estate and property should make the provision of training of their staff on records management.
- ItemComparative Study of the Properties of Ordinary Portland Cement Concrete and Binary Concrete Containing Metakaolin Made from Kankara Kaolin in Nigeria(2016)The study explored metakaolin as alternative material to cement. It compares the properties of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete and binary concrete containing metakaolin as partial replacement of OPC. Two set of concrete samples; one with 10% Metakaolin (MK) replacing OPC by weight, and the other without MK (100% OPC) as control, were produced. The samples were tested for compressive and tensile strengths at 7, 14, 28 and 90 days. The result revealed that the slump of the binary concrete was 26% lower than the control. However, the compressive and tensile strengths of binary concrete were higher than those of control by 10.8% and 11.9% at 28days, and by 21.6% and 34.5% at 90 days, respectively. Therefore, the MK produced from Kankara Kaolin can be used as Pozzolan to improve the strengths of concrete.

- ItemPERFORMANCE OF METAKAOLIN BASED GEOPOLYMER CONCRETE AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURE(2020-07-03)Due to the carbon dioxide emission arising from the production of cement, alternative concrete that is environmentally friendly such as metakaolin geopolymer concrete have been developed. However, the performance of metakaolin based geopolymer concrete (MKGC) when exposed to aggressive environment particularly elevated temperature has not been investigated. Therefore, this paper assessed the performance of MKGC exposed to elevated temperatures. MKGC cube specimens of grade 25 were produced using a mix ratio of 1:1.58:3.71.After preparing the specimens, they were placed in an electric oven at a temperature of 60°C for 24 hours. Thereafter, the specimens were stored in the laboratory at ambient temperature for 28 days. The specimens were then exposed to elevated temperatures of 200, 400, 600 and 800° C. After exposure to elevated temperatures, the MKGC specimens were subjected to compressive strength, water absorption and abrasion resistance tests. Results show that at 600 and 800°C, the MKGC lost a compressive strength of 59.69% and 71.71% respectively. Higher water absorption and lower abrasion resistance were also observed.
- ItemINFLUENCE OF METAKAOLIN ON THE RESISTANCE OF CEMENT MORTAR TO ELEVATED TEMPERATURES(2017)Ordinary Portland cement mortar exposed to elevated temperature experiences physico-chemical changes that can lead to the deterioration of its strength and durability performance. However, the inclusion ofpovgplanic material in cement mortar modifies the response of mortar to elevated temperatures. This paper examined the effect of metakaolin (MK) on the resistance of cement mortar to elevated temperatures. Two sets of cement mortar specimens, one with 20% MK replacing cement (MK-specimen) and the other without MK (control) were produced. Constant aggregate to cement ratio of 2.75 and water to binder ratio of 0.35 were used to produce the mortar specimens. After 28 days of curing in water and pre-heating at 105°C for 24 hours, the two sets of specimens were heated to different temperatures of 200, 400, 600 and 800°C at a constant heating rate of 2.5"C/min. After achieving the targeted temperatures, the specimens were maintained for 2 hours before cooling to ambient temperature in the furnace. The compressive strengths and ultrasonic pulse velocities of the heated specimens were tested The results showed that the retained compressive strengths of the MK-specimens at 200, 400, 600 and 800"C were 104%, 74%, 68% and 42%, respectively while, the corresponding values for the control specimens were 101%, 67%, 55% and 45%. Moreover, the retained pulse velocities values for the MKspecimens were 95%, 74%, 44% and 36%, while those for the control specimens were 91%, 70%, 41% and 33% at the same temperatures. Impliedly, MK improved the retained compressive strength and pulse velocity of cement mortar at elevated temperatures. Therefore, cement mortar blended with MK may be used as afire resisting construction material.
