It was recommended that there should be training of staff to deal with the issue of technophobia, budgetary allocations to secure advance technology, provision of Internet and constant supply of power amongst others.
- ItemCLIMATE CHANGE MISINFORMATION & LITERACY PERCEPTION OF SELECTED UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN A UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY(LIBRARY AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT FORUM JOURNAL OF AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY LIBRARY COMPLEX, 2024) Adetoro, Salau Sadiat; Michael, Obaje Alfred; Abdullahi, Isah YahayaThe paper presented the findings about the perceptions of selected undergraduate students on climate change misinformation and literacy. Empirical data was collected using an exploratory approach. The perception of 60 selected undergraduates on climate change misinformation and the use of Open Education Resources (OERs) to curb climate misinformation. To reduce biases, students selected for data collection were not in disciplines related to environmental sciences, geography or climate science. The data collected indicated that the students understand that climate change exists, although over half of the respondents were not sure if they had been misinformed about climate change from their most used sources of climate change information. The study concluded that climate change awareness is rapidly gaining ground as the perception about climate change and its consequences is no longer in doubt among the students. The study recommended that librarians in the open access space play a key role by increasing accessibility to diverse high quality OERs that would provide accurate information on climate change. Librarians can also use social media platforms and other digital tools to enhance students’ critical thinking and media literacy skills thereby enabling them to discern credible information about climate change from misinformation

This study investigated the extent to which final-year Library and Information Science (LIS) students at the Awka Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria collaborate to enhance their awareness and utilization of OER. It assessed students’ awareness of OER, collaborative practices in accessing and applying OER, challenges encountered, and the impact of collaboration on academic performance and research capabilities. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The study employed a descriptive survey design with a population of 348 final-year LIS students. Data were collected through structured questionnaires, focus group discussions, and interviews, and analysed using descriptive statistics (frequency counts and percentages), correlation, and thematic analysis. Findings revealed that students possessed a high level of awareness of OER and made significant use of various resources through collaborative practices. Collaboration was found to positively influence their academic engagement, research productivity, and overall performance. However, several barriers impeded effective use of OER, including inadequate information literacy skills, poor internet access, unreliable electricity, limited institutional support, preference for individual study, and lack of encouragement from lecturers. The study concludes that peer collaboration enhances awareness and utilization of OER, but systemic barriers limit its full potential. It recommends strengthening institutional support, improving ICT infrastructure, and promoting a collaborative learning culture to maximize OER adoption in LIS education.
- ItemCOMPARATIVE STUDY OF ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURES, POLICIES, ICT ADOPTION AND SERVICE DELIVERY IN SELECTED AMERICAN AND NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES(Library and Information Management Forum, 2025) Yaya Usman; Saad Adamu Kwairanga; Bakari Sadiku Umar; Sani Asiya; Auwalu Ubah KabaraUniversity libraries are vital components of educational institutions, serving as centers of knowledge and enhancing learning and research among students and staff. The concludes by advocating for continued efforts to support these libraries, recognizing their essential paper role in nurturing well-rounded individuals, fostering research skills, and inspiring lifelong learners.
- ItemDESIGNING FOR INCLUSION: LIBRARY PROGRAMMES AND SPACES FOR NEURODIVERSE USERS(Library and Information Management Forum, 2025) Chimezie Damian OGBUABOR,; Edward C. AMADI,; Anezi Leonard EZEMASupporting neurodiverse individuals in library environments requires more than superficial or occasional accommodations; it necessitates a fundamental rethinking of what accessibility means within public and academic library contexts. Neurodivergence which includes conditions such as autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and other neurological variations significantly influences how individuals interact with information, spaces, and services. Traditional, one-size-fits-all library programming and design often fail to meet these diverse cognitive and sensory needs. To ensure equitable access, libraries must adopt more flexible, user-centered strategies that accommodate different ways of thinking, learning, and engaging. These may include creating low-stimulation, quiet zones, offering programming in multiple formats, and designing intuitive, customizable digital interfaces. Moreover, involving neurodivergent individuals directly in the planning, evaluation, and delivery of library services helps ensure that those services are truly inclusive and responsive. While these changes aim to support neurodiverse users, the principles of inclusive design benefit the broader user community by enhancing accessibility and usability for all. Positioned as inclusive spaces for learning, connection, and civic engagement, libraries have both the opportunity and the responsibility to lead in fostering inclusive environments that prioritize empathy, equity, and meaningful participation across all user demographics
