- ItemINFORMATION RESOURCE PROCESSING USING KNOWLEDGE ORGANIZATION TOOLS IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES: A CASE STUDY OF AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY LIBRARY COMPLEX(2017-06) SAMBO, Suleiman,; MOHAMMED, Habibu,; LIMAN, Aminu ShehuThe paper focuses on using Knowledge Organisation Tools (KOT) for information resources processing in academic libraries, a study of Ahmadu Bello University Library Complex, Zaria. The paper sees KOT as anything use as a device, means, or instrument for processing the understanding, experience, and wisdom of individual(s) to enhance easy access and create value to the knowledge. The study was conducted using descriptive content analysis. It was revealed that professionals and para professionals in academic libraries are involved in using Knowledge Organisation Tools for managing information resources. The paper concludes that, from time to time it may be required to audit and update the Knowledge Management Tools (KMT), information resources and human information seeking strategies in academic libraries to enhance knowledge and meet up with 21st century challenges.

U.Sonic decades ago, libraries all over the world had depended on their parent institutions for their survival. In recent times libraries are characterized by dwindling resources as government funding has been drastically reduced. This has, in turn, affected the development of libraries and their services to the users. In order to survive the economic crunch, libraries should try and plan on the prospects of marketing their information services. It is on this note that this paper examined the funding or otherwise of some academic libraries in Niger State, Nigeria to know the prospects and future of marketing information services in these libraries. Questionnaire was used to gather information from the respondents. The paper recommends that having put libraries in expected standard, most services provided in the library should be charged.
- ItemA SURVEY OF SECURITY PROBLEMS IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES IN BENUE STATE(Zaria Jornal of Librarianship, 2006) Amaakaven, Fabian; Jam, ZawuaLibrary security is an issue that attracts the immediate attention of all serums minded librarians and library administrators The authors set out to study to what extent security is a problem in academic libraries in Benue State, the forms of insecurity that were more prevalent and the methods adopted to contain them After the survey of the nine academic libraries in Benue State, it was found that theft of hooks and journal mutilation were more prevalent in most of the libraries. It was also found that connivance and absenteeism by library staff contributed to insecurity in some libraries. Recommendations such as increase in security personnel in and around library buildings and installation of electronic security systems to detect fraud have been made. 48
- ItemUSER DELINQUENCY IN SELECTED ACADEMIC LIBRARIES IN KADUNA STATE; ITS EFFECT ON LIBRARY COLLECTION(ZARIA JOURNAL OF LIBRARIANSHIP, 2007) Esievo, Lovet 0.; Mohammed, Z.The study examines forms of user delinquency in academic libraries in Kaduna State using survey research method. Questionnaires were administered to the librarians of fifteen (15) academic libraries Followed by personal visits that also allowed for oral interviews. All the questionnaires administrated were collected on the spot after completion by the respondents, thus giving a response rate of 100%. The study reveals that there are various forms of delinquent acts in academic libraries in Kaduna Slate. The study concludes that user delinquency is a phenomenon that exists and that academic librarians must intensify their efforts and adopt more effective methods of arresting the ugly trend in their libraries. It is recommended that close circuit television camera be used as a mode of surveillance and counseling the users in order to guard against deliquency in an academic librarv
