Abstract
In Nigeria, there are available human and materials resource yet, the country is faced with
numerous challenges which manifest in poor political leadership, deprived economic
growth, decayed infrastructural structures as well as deficit and inherited educational
system that has been unable to produce desired results. This paper therefore views
education as one of the most valuable assets that drives the country toward achieving the
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The paper critically assesses open
education as a system that removes the barriers to education opportunities, increase
inclusiveness and access to quality learning opportunity, in addition, to how the Library
provides the key information resources that supports and sustains open education aimed at
promoting sustainable development. The paper concludes and recommends for investment
in infrastructure development, regular training and retraining, formulation and
implementation of wide-ranging educational policies among others.
