Abstract
ABSTRACT An Interpretation of the aeromagnetic data over part (sheets 21, 22, 42, 43, 64 and 65) of the Chad Basin, which lies within longitudes 11.5° E and 12.5 ° E and latitudes 12.0° Nand 13.3° N, was carried out. A qualitative interpretation of the total field maps in the above sheets shows that most of the anomalies (source bodies) have NE - SAV alignment and few with E - W and NW - SE trends. Quantitative analyses using the Werner dcconvolution method and 2 1/2 - Dimensional modelling, using the GM - SYS program reveal, that the depth to the magnetic basement varies from 0.3 km to 2.1 km in the study area. The 2 1/2 - D modelling method revealed the presence of intrusions scattered in different places in the study area. The thickness of the intrusions range from 0.1-18 km and their lengths vary from 0.1 km - 12 km. Shapes of intrusions obtained correspond to vertical dyke of basic igneous rock as interpreted from the modelling technique. The study further suggests that the susceptibilities of the intrusions (0.0069 to 0.0092 SI Units) are greater than those of the host rock (0.0059 SI Units). vii
