Abstract
This study is aimed at creating a geo-database of healthcare facilities in Jema‘a Local Government Area using Geographic Information System. The study revealed that, 55 healthcare facilities were identified and map out during the field survey. Geographic coordinates of all points identified were established by the use of GPS device. Questionnaire was used to generate information on medical professionals and medical facilities. These set of data generated from the field was used to create a database. The study revealed that 56.4% of the healthcare facilities are owned by government and 43.4% are privately owned. The distribution pattern of healthcare facilities is discovered to clustering using the nearest neighbor statistics. The query shows that Jema‘a chiefdom has 21% healthcare facilities; Fanstwam chiefdom has 3.5%; Kaninkon chiefdom has 3.6%; Godogodo chiefdom has 29.1%; Gwong chiefdom has 29.1% and Nyeskpa chiefdom had 10.9%. The query further shows healthcare facilities with medical professionals and healthcare facilities with medical facilities. The study recommends that issues such as medical staffing and medical facilities concerning healthcare system in Jema‘a LGA should be giving necessary attention by stakeholders.
