dc.description.abstractThis study examines the impact of data analytics in information management in selected university libraries in Niger Delta, Nigeria. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of data management in university libraries in Niger Delta in the modern data era, electronic information resources explosion has transformed data from a mere by product of operations into a core strategic asset. Institutions, industries and other organizations have changed from traditional information management to data – driven system of information management. It was not easy to process management decision before the advent of data analytics. The study adopted a descriptive survey design to examine the impact of data analytics in information management. The design was considered appropriate for obtaining quantitative data on the analytical tools used in the data era, professional skills required for data analytics integration and benefits. The population comprised 115 librarians in 10 university libraries at Federal, State and Private Universities located in 3 states of the Niger Delta of Nigeria. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was personally administered and retrieved within two weeks, resulting in a 100% response rate. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distribution. The findings reveal that the adoption of data analytics in information management system has noticeably influenced the time management, enhanced quick decision – making and improves data security with the application of ICT tools in university libraries and other organizations. However, the study also identifies critical challenges including lack of definite data analytical policies, poor telecommunication infrastructures, lack of analytical skills and poor communication skills. Ultimately, this study reveals that data analytics is unavoidable in established organizations, libraries and industries in this information age, to enhance perfect global competitiveness and analytical capabilities to promote data – driven culture. The study concludes with a declaration that the integration of data analytics promotes operational efficiency and influences institutional performance by enabling evidence-based decision making for effective library services. But the university library management is faced with challenges which include financial barriers and unreliable power supply. It is therefore recommended that the university management should give priority to provisions for ICT infrastructural facilities, institutional policies should insensitive knowledge-sharing behaviors among staffs to foster a robust culture of continuous learning and innovations.
