This study on "Role Perceptions of Principals and Teachers of Secondary Grammar Schools" was an attempt to evaluate the degree of agreement in intra-and inter-role perceptions between principals and teachers of secondary grammar schools in Kwara State of Nigeria, Evidences from the literature suggest that school administrators as well as teachers, on entering their jobs, do not have guidelines to describe their role expectations. With their previous experiences, training and observations, they gradually form conceptions of their roles. Hence, they are hardly agreeable on their roles in the school organization. This lack of agreement may contribute to observable administrative ineffectiveness. Using a block sampling technique, the researcher selected for the study 22 secondary grammar schools out of 73 such schools in Kwara State (1978/79 academic session). All the principals of the selected schools and 340 teachers, about 30 percent of the total teacher population were selected as the subjects for the study. Two instruments, derived from the literature and validated by experts were administered at two different times to the subjects. The reliabilities of the instruments were estimated at .86 for the TRPI and at .82 for the PRPI. Six hypotheses in their null form were tested. These hypotheses were assessin: (a) principals' perceptions of their ideal role and their actual role performance, (b) teachers' perceptions of the principals' ideal role, (c) principals' perceptions of teachers' ideal role, (d) teachers' perceptions of their ideal role and their actual role performance, (e) the combined principals' and teachers' perceptions of principals' ideal role and, (f) the combined teachers' and principals' perceptions of teachers' ideal role.en_US
