dc.description.abstractThis paper examined the availability and utilisation of library information resources on undergraduate students’ academic activities in Nasarawa State University Keffi. Among the objectives were: to find out the extent of academic activities of undergraduate students in Nasarawa State University, Keffi; determine the level of utilisation of library information resources among undergraduate students in Nasarawa State University, Keffi. The population of the study is 330 undergraduate students. This population covers only undergraduate students offering Library and Information Science at undergraduate level. Questionnaire was used as instruments for data collection. Descriptive statistics, such as frequencies, means and standard deviation were used as method of data analysis. The findings of the study revealed among others that the academic activities of library and information science undergraduate students such as conducting of research, writing of papers and theses and collaborating with peers and faculty members is to a very high extent. Similarly, budget constraints, information overload, technological limitations, copyright and licensing issues, inadequate facilities for users with disabilities, insufficient training and expertise among library staff, lack of access to internet and space constraint were seen as challenges hindering availability and utilisation of information resources on academic activities of undergraduate students. The study concluded that the availability and utilisation of library information resources by library and information science undergraduate students cannot be overemphasised especially towards satisfying their academic and research needs. Budget constraints, information overload, technological limitations, copyright and licensing issues, inadequate facilities for users with disabilities, insufficient training and expertise among library staff, lack of access to Internet and space constraint were the major challenges library and information science undergraduate students face in using library information resources for their academic activities. The study recommended among others that the management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi should encourage research and publication by providing library information resources where undergraduate students can engage in grant proposal writing, field work or experiments, research and publication of their works.
