| dc.description.abstract | This paper focuses on overview on Generalization of Quantitative Research in Information Management. Research is a process of gathering, analysing and generating findings. These findings emerge as a result of investigating population of the research. In quantitative research, sometimes samples are used to represent the entire population. The findings from the sample are used to generalize to the members of the population represented. Statistics is an important tool used in studying samples and generalizing the findings. Information management researchers such as records managers, librarians, computer scientists, curators etc., use quantitative approach to study samples and generalize the findings. This is carried out to save time, energy, finance etc., by the researchers. Using statistical techniques and methods profoundly help researthers to be able to summarise, present and publish results. Quantitative method allows the information management researchers to find out how a particular variable associates with another using statistics by studying samples of the population and apply the results to the entire population. This is carried out using descriptive methods, experimental methods or causal methods. Generalization is carried out after identification of area of interest, constructing aim and objectives, review of relevant literature, choosing appropriate population, choosing appropriate samples, choosing appropriate statistical techniques, data collection, analysis and interpretation of results, presentation of the results from the samples and applying them to the entire population, which can be archivists, librarians, information users among others. It is concluded that quantitative research is very important in finding association between or among variables in information management research. It is used to study samples and generalize the findings to the entire population using statistics in order to save time, energy, finance etc. | |
