Rubella (German measles) is a vaccine preventable disease caused by Rubella virus. The public health importance of rubella relates to the teratogenic effects of the virus when acquired in the early months of pregnancy. The purpose of the study was to determine the Seroprevalence and detect the presence of Rubella virus among women of reproductive age in Kaduna State, Nigeria. A total of 360 women between the ages of 15 and 45 years attending the selected health facilities were enrolled for the study and blood and throat swab specimens obtained from these women were analysed using ELISA and Nested RT-PCR techniques. The prevalence of Rubella virus IgG and IgM antibodies obtained among the 360 women examined was 343(95.3%) for Rubella IgG antibodies and 93(25.8%) for Rubella IgM antibodies. Women between the age group of 40 and 45 had the highest prevalence of 100% while women between the age group of 25 and 29 years had the lowest prevalence of 92.9% for Rubella IgG antibody. Women between the age group of 15-19 years had the highest prevalence of 31.8% while those between the ages of 20 and 24 years had the lowest of 19.6% for rubella IgM. Some of the socio-demographic and risk factors associated with rubella in this study were Senatorial district of the women, history of vaccination, joint pains (P<0.05). A positivity rate of 13% was obtained by polymerase chain reaction. Efforts should be made to make routine screening part of antenatal careen_US
