Abstract
Forty three samples of Kanwa were analysed for their sodium and potassium content using flame photometry and atomic absorption spectroscopy. Both methods gave similar results; the samples showed about 30% of sodium and 0.1-4% of potassium; a few results were outside these ranges. The anions, carbonate, chloride and sulphate were detected in the samples; sulphide was not indicated in any sample. In the brightly coloured samples, sample nos. 5, 13, 28, 29, 38, and 40, manganese was detected and determined by the ammonium persulphate oxidation method. The proportion of manganese in these samples was of the order of 10
