Association between dietary pattern, lipid profile and anaemia among 112 randomly selected pregnant women in their second and third trimesters attending AKTH were assessed using standard methods. This study showed that 58.0% of the pregnant women investigated have attained tertiary level of education, 90.2% were married and 50.0% were fulltime housewives. Among the pregnant women, 56.4% were iron/folate supplement compliant. Moreover, the prevalence of anaemia, iron deficiency and IDA among the pregnant women during second trimester were 37.5%, 8.0%and 14.0% respectively, which significantly (p<0.05) increased to 65.8%, 12.9% and 21.2% respectively in the third trimester. Serum lipid profile revealed that the prevalence of dyslipidaemia, hypercholesterolaemia, hypertriglyceridaemia, high LDL and low HDL among the pregnant women during the second trimester were 69.6%, 19.6%, 36.6%, 18.8% and 49.1% respectively, which significantly (p<0.05) increased to 91.8%, 54.1%, 75.3%, 40.0% and 62.4% respectively in the third trimester. The pregnant women showed high risk of cardiovascular diseases in both second (81.0%) and third (85.0%) trimesters respectively. Furthermore, therewas a significant (p<0.05) positive correlation between serum iron and cholesterol, as well as transferrin saturation with cholesterol and low density lipoprotein irrespectiveof trimesters. In conclusion, pregnancy progression from second to third trimester is associated with increased risk for IDA, maternal dyslipidemia and cardiovascular diseases among the pregnant women.en_US
