dc.description.abstractThe stratigraphic succession of the Duguri area in Bauchi state Northeastern Nigeria begins with the Precambrian Basement Complex, the Gombe Sandstone was deposited during the Late Campanian to Maastrichtian times as a result of a renewed phase of rifting. The Gombe Sandstone is made up of 2 facies; The pebbly/conglomerate facies and a “Red Sandstone Facies”. The “red sandstone facies” makes up a greater part of Gombe Sandstone. A break in sedimentation, subaerial erosion and ferruginization of Gombe Sandstone gave rise to an unconformity between the Gombe Sandstone and Kerri- Kerri Formation. The Gombe Sandstone in the Duguri area is not folded and only slightly tilted. The palaeocene renewed E – W rifting resulted in the deposition of Kerri-Kerri Formation, unconformably overlying the Cretaceous. The Alluvium and Alluvial fan are of Recent age and were deposited upon the Kerri-Kerri Formation after a break in sedimentation.en_US
