dc.description.abstractThis study focused on utilisation of peer informal social interaction for information sharing among archives and records management students in Ahamdu Bello University Zaria. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were used in the study. The research questions sought to find out the reasons that make master in archives and records management students in the department of library and Information science ABU, Zaria engage in peer informal social interaction, the second one sought to find out the level of satisfaction derive from peer informal social interaction by the students among others. The hypotheses used are; there is no significant difference among master in archives and records management students in the Department of Library and Information science ABU on their reasons for engaging in peer informal social interaction, the second hypothesis stated that Peer informal social interaction among the Master in Archives and Records Management students in the Department of Library and Information Science ABU Zaria has no significant use on the satisfaction they derive from the interaction. The research method adopted was survey, the population of the study comprised all master in archives and records management students admitted in the Department of Library and Information Science ABU Zaria from 2010/2011 to 2014/2015 totaling (23) in number. Because the population was small, there was no sampling, the whole population was used. Structured questionnaire containing closed-ended questions was used. Data collected from the research questions was analyzed using frequency and percentage. Null hypotheses one and two were tested using Kruskal Wallis H Test and Chi-square respectively. The findings of the study revealed that majority of master in archives and records management students in the Department of Library and Information Science ABU, Zaria engaged in peer informal social interaction to share information about their understandings on a particular course in their field of studies, the second finding showed that majority of these students were mostly satisfied with discussion between two individual as one of the types of peer informal social interaction. The study concluded that peer informal social interaction has significant importance on the information sharing among the student under study. It was suggested among others that the Master in Archives and Records Management students in the Department of Library and Information Science Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria should be encouraged to stick to peer informal social interaction because through such interaction, information that can lead to the better understanding of a particular course in their field of study is acquired.
