Abstract
A geoelectrical survey employing the conventional Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) was carried out at 36 stations in the Basement Complex of Romi village, south of Kaduna town. The survey was carried out to determine the groundwater potentials of the area. Results from the interpretation of the data collected led to the production of some geoelectric and geologic sections and maps from which conclusions were drawn. The result of the study indicate a layering of two to three in the region. The range in resistivities for the first, second and third layer are 95-2187 ohm-m, 32-558 ohm-m and 585-8810 ohm-m, respectively depending on the lithological formation. The investigation showed that the aquifer occurs in the weathered and fractured basement which is characterized by relatively low resistivity values, 35-160 ohm-m for the weathered basement. From the analysis of the maps and other information in the study, the most promising region for underground water exploitation in the area was delineated and this was found to be the region around VES L3/3. The dimension of this region measures about 1.68 xlO6 nr3 . Furthermore, the overburden thickness map suggests that the drainage pattern in the Romi stream is controlled by the basement topography.
