dc.description.abstractThis study investigated Challenges Encountered in Utilising Information Resources by Patrons as a Result of Library Space Design in Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Library (UMYUL), Katsina State, Nigeria. The study was guided by one objective which is; to identify challenges encountered by patrons in utilizing information resources as a result of library space in Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina State, Nigeria. The paper, is an opinion paper. Findings revealed that; collaborative and group study space, quiet and independent learning space technology and digital resources space and discussion space, are the most common types of library spaces available for patrons in Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Library, Katsina State, Nigeria. The study discovered that; library spaces greatly impacted information resource utilisation by patrons through encouraging more frequent use, space as a determining factor for using library resources facilitating group discussion, enhancing comfort and productivity, limiting access to certain resources, providing accessibility for individuals with special needs, feeling comfortable and relaxed in Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Library, Katsina State, Nigeria. The study found out that; overcrowding is the main challenge affecting the utilisation of library spaces by Patron in Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Library, Katsina State, Nigeria.
