Abstract
ABSTRACT
This thesis "The Role of Federal College of Education,
Zaria on the Educational Development of Nigeria'' researches
into the relevance of the aims and objectives of the Federal
College of Education, Zaria in bringing about educational
development in Nigeria. The main variables in the study
include: The developmentalobjectives of the college, funding
and infrastructure and staffing. Null hypotheses were stated on
the three variables.
The study was a survey of the theoretical views and
statistical analysis of responses from FCE senior and junior
staff. The statistical techniques employed for the analysis and
testing of the hypotheses was the table of percentages and
pooled variance T-Test. System analysis model was adopted as
the theoretical framework for the research.
The major findings of the study show that the opinions of
senior staff and junior staff significantly disagree on the
contribution of Federal College of Education, Zaria to the
educational development of Nigeria. It was also found out that
the responses of the male staff and female staff both agree
that funding and infrastructure of the college are not
adequately done and thus create some obstacles on the efforts
made by the staff to realize the noble objectives of the
college. Furthermore, the study shows significant difference in
the opinions of senior and junior staff that the staffing

situation in t he college now is adequate for performance that
would produce the desired outcome.
Some recommendations were made to the government, college
management, the staff and future researchers, which include a
call on the government to renew its commitment in the funding
of education In the country at large and the Federal College of
Education, Zaria in particular.
The college management is called upon to gear her
activities toward promoting the objectives of the college.
The staff of the college is enjoined to seek and utilize
opportunities for further education, seminars, workshops and
publication to improve and develop them so as to develop the
nation through their participation in the teaching and learning
activities of FCE, Zaria.
Future researchers have been called upon to carry out
similar researches in other institutions of higher learning in
Nigeria, with a view to affirming or disproving the present
findings.
