The Werner deconvolution method of interpretation using aeromagnetic data along profiles has been used to carry out a basement study of parts of the Upper Benue Trough within latitudes 10°30'N to 11°30'N and longitudes 11°00'E to 12°00'E. Deconvolution was applied to profiles Spaced about 2 Km apart which made correlation of calculated depths from adjacent profiles possible. Depths which were consistent for adjacent profiles through the same anomalies were used in fitting magnetic basement surfaces to magnetic profiles and in preparing a magnetic basement contour map for the area. The results show that the maximum thickness of the sediments lies between 1.4 Km and 2.0 Km with the deepest portion located between Wawa and Dukul, Some magnetic lineaments were delineated in the qualitative interpretation which match some of the lineaments interpreted by Ajakaiye et al (1986). These have been related to structural changes in the magnetic composition of the basement rocks. It was also observed that the basement topography cannot totally account for all the magnetic intensity variation which is attributed to the poor resolution of the produced basement map as well as the heterogeneous magnetic character of the basement rocks.en_US
