Medical and Meteorological data for ten years were used to study the effect of weather on the occurrence of some common diseases such as malaria, typhoid, meningitis, measles, pneumonia, diarrhea and asthma in Zaria. The results show that malaria is the most rampant having the highest number of occurrence in all the hospitals. Typhoid occurred throughout the year but higher during the rainy season in some hospitals. Measles and meningitis were more common during the hot periods. Asthma, pneumonia and diarrhea did not show seasonal pattern of occurrence. Analysis show that the diseases have significant relationship with some of the meteorological elements but these correlations vary in strength. Malaria, typhoid, measles, asthma and diarrhea had a very strong correlation with relative humidity. Meningitis and asthma had strong correlation with temperature. While only asthma had a strong correlation with rainfall. With this it was easier to identify the weather element that influences the frequency of occurrence of a particular disease more than the othersen_US
