Abstract
ABSTRACT One of the programme(s) of action adopted byNigerian government to promote agricultural development includes, the creation of nodal centres called farm service centres. This design is to establish an efficient delivery system of farm inputs to the grassroots. This study examines the operations and performance of farm service centres in the Eastern part of Plateau State. The purpose is to determine whether they are performing or not. Thus, organizational framework, utilization, input distribution, the provision of infrastructural facilities or services, impact on agricultural production, existing institutional organizations and role in adoption of innovation was assessed to determine the extent of progress made. This was done with the intent of developing a strategy that can further enhance FSCs functions so as to meet the needs and aspirations of the peasant farmers, The research findings revealed that awareness, and accessibility affects the utilization of FSCs in the study area.
