Abstract
This research attempted to identify psychosocial strategies for
enhancing female education. This was informed by the increasing
decline of female education in Jaba and Kachia LGAs. The factors
responsible are many, the major ones being the general societal
neglect of educating the female child, poverty and inaccessible
schools. Other factors include early marriage, repetition and
teenage pregnancy.
Three hypotheses were formulated relating to the differences
in perception of psychosocial strategies among male and female
parents, teachers and students. One hypothesis was postulated to
assess the relationship between educational qualification and
teachers perception of psychosocial strategies that could enhance,
female education in the area of study. The study further
investigates whether educational qualification of teachers, can
inform their perception of psychosocial strategies.
The subjects comprised of' 350 students, 102 teachers and 96
parents from 11 schools across the two LGAs. Among the statistical
techniques used in analyzing the data are analysis of variance and
Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results
showed that there is significant difference in the perception of
psychosocial strategies between rural and urban males and females.
There is significant relationship between educational qualification
vi
and teachers’ perception of psychosocial strategies from enhancing
female education.
A number of recommendations were forwarded which if
considered by parents, teachers, students and education planners
for implementation, could go a long way to enhancing female
education in the two LGAs and Kaduna State in general. They can
have additional advantage on improving the health of the families
and increase their productivity
