Abstract
ABSTRACT The study aims at examining Africa’s participation and perspective in globalization from the technological point of view with an attempt to establishing how developing countries can derive the best benefit from it. Following a theoretical overview of the basic concepts and review of relevant literatures, analysis was made of the extent to which World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements, particularly the technology-related provisions, could enlarge the capabilities of African countries to procure and develop modern technologies. Empirical literatures were in turn reviewed, which served as the basis for proposing research agenda to study the resulting empirical implications, ultimately to identify specific technology policy issues that African countries should emphasize in the continuing debate on the effect of global market integration. Finally, the study draws conclusions and recommends a programme framework, which would aid in the pursuit of the research agenda proposed.
