Abstract
The paper examines the concept of consultancy services within the library and information sector in Nigeria. Highlighting the role of consultants, the different types of consultancy that librarians in Nigeria engage in, challenges, as well as the nagging problem of costing consultants’ services, the paper concludes by suggesting the need for consultants in library and information sector in Nigeria to be current and update their skills regularly. They also need to keep a pool of experts that they could draw on when necessary, understand the scope of the consultancy, maintain their overhead costs down and always insist on having a signed contract before setting out to do the job.
