Hartz May, 1983 75 (Graduate Major) "[ReseaFch Advisor) (Month/Year") (No. of Pages) The federal government of Nigeria is actively involved in providing quality education to its citizens. For this reason it has assumed responsibility for improving the standards on all levels of education by encouraging the use of modern educational techniques. In 1977, it became national education policy to emphasize the use of instructional media in the classroom. This study was conducted in order to discover whether the educational practice in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was in accordance with the Nigerian educational policy. A survey instrument, which included 18 items of non-print (non-book) instructional media, was developed to determine its availability for various departments, and for classroom use by university teachers. Copies of the instrument (questionnaires) were sent to 300 teachers in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, during the 1982-83 academic year. Two hundred and thirty-two of the teachers completed and returned their questionnaires. ii 111 After analyzing the data, it was found that the majority of the teachers claimed that most of the media under investigation was not available in their departments. Some of the media, however, was said to be available in the university. The majority of the teachers (more than 72.0% of the respondents) have never used the media under investigation.
