The optimization of the synthesis of methyl orange was investigated at different pH (3-8) with sulphanilic acid as diazo component and N,N- dimethylaniline as coupling component. The dye was purified by recrystallization, the purity was confirmed by melting point and TLC analysis, then characterized by FTIR and GCMS spectroscopy. Pseudo order method was utilized to study the kinetics of the above reaction where the concentration of reactant [A] (diazo component) was kept constant and that of reactant [B] coupling component was varied and about 20 fold greater than that of [A]. The yield was found to be increasing with decrease in pH values i.e highest yield was obtained at pH 3 followed by 4,5,6,7 and 8. A kinetic model was established according to the order of the reaction with respect to both [A] and [B] at each pH and tested. Theoretical values were calculated using this model and compared with actual (experimental) values using SPSS window.en_US
