The Dukki Old gold mine is situated within the Precambrian to Lower Paleozoic Maru schist belt of NW Nigeria. The belt consists of meta-sediments, meta-igneous rocks (schist belt lithologies) and granitic intrusions. The meta-sediments and meta-igneous rocks have been deposited on older basement gneiss-es and mitigates and both units were deformed together and intruded by the Pan-African granites. The gold mineralization comprises series of N-S auriferous veins hosted in the sheared zone within series of silicified schists/phyllites and quartzite s. Geophysical survey using the EM/VLF method was carried out at Dukki mine area, which defined the auriferous veins and revealed concealed mineralized zone. The mineralized zones discovered correspond with the limits of the old workings. Free gold occurs in quartz. Other vein constituents are sericite, magnetite, limonite, limonite and pyrite in minute quantities. Wallrock alteration processes include; silicification, sensitization and harmonization. Based on petrographic, structural and geochemical characteristics, the Dukki gold mineralization is inferred to have been an epigenetic type, controlled by late tectonic faults that developed along regional anticline axis during the closing stages of the Pan-African event. The mineralization fluids were possibly sourced from within the crustal meta-sedimentary rocks of the schist belt, probably along original trans-current fracture systems that developed during the waning stages of the Pan-African events.en_US
