Abstract
A simple model for calculating the concentration of two important vitamins ( folic acid and vitamin B12) i n human blood donors using the radio assay technique has been described . An analisies of t his model has shown that where is need to e stability optimal working concentrations of re agents difference from those recommended by the supplied of the radio a say kits , depending the age of the kit, if high assay sensitivity is to be achieve. It has also been shown the difference of Amer sham give very wide delay spread concentrations of serum f o l i c acid (SFA)»red c e l l f o l a t e (RCF) and serum vitamin B12 (SB1 2 ) even with the symptom-free d o n o r s. These concentration showed very poor correlation w i t h those obtained by the microbiological using the microorganism L. case is for the , due of probablly to difference in the response of the two a say. "The mean SPA, RCF and SB12 levels for the symptom r e e blood donors in Zaria were found tc be 6.2 + 2.2 μ g / l , 318 ± 7 5 u g / l , 383 ± 27 n g / 1 respectivelly by the technique. The normal reference ranges for t h e s e donors were found to be 1 - 37 (μg/1, 98 - 1035 μg/1 and 99 - 1482 n g / l for SFA, RCF and S B 1 2 respectively
