dc.description.abstractPortfolio Management in a commercial Bank is not an easy task. It involves deciding on the type and composition of various assets to maintain given the level and composition of the deposit liabilities. This is done in such a way that safety and profitability is ensured. In the management of Commercial Bank portfolio these two objectives are found to contradict one another. This project analyses the problem of commercial Bank Portfolio Management as it relates to Nigerian situation with particular reference to the case of Kano Co-operative Bank. In so doing the past operations of the Bank have been analysed with the view to identifying the degree of effectiveness and efficiency with which the problem of portfolio management was handled. In the course of the analysis, the various regulations in the Nigerian banking industry have been considered, with the view to exposing the extent to which such regulations affect the efficiency with which Commercial Banks manage their portfolio of assets. The number of findings will certainly go along way towards contributing to the ways to go about solving the problems of Commercial Bank portfolio management in Nigeria, and Kano Co-operative Bank in particular.en_US
