Abstract
This research work assessed the attitudes of students
and teachers towards Councillors and counsel-ling in some
selected secondary schools in Main Land Local Government Area
of Lagos State. The research was motivated by the researcher's
observation of the lukewarm attitude of the school authority,
teachers and students of Ansar-UD-Deen Girls High School towards
a student Councillor sent to the school, for practicum, from
University of Ibadan. The attitude towards the student gave
the researcher a lot of concern that inspires the conduct of
this research to ascertain if such attitude is the same in all
schools.
Four secondary schools with trained counselors and
organized counsel-ling services in Main Land Local Government
Area of Lagos State were selected. The respondents comprise of
200 teachers and 500 selected students from senior and junior
secondary school. The instrument used for data collection was
constructed by the researcher after it has been validated.
The instrument was personally administered by the researcher
to the respondents. Both descriptive and inferential statistical
tools were used to analyze the data.
Eight hypotheses were stated for testing the study. The
results of the data analyzed indicated that the first two
hypotheses were rejected while the last six were retained.

courses in general guidance so that they
are more informed on the roles of Councillors in
school.
3. That school Councillors be more accepting so that
both their services and themselves are accepted by
teachers and students.
