dc.description.abstractIn this survey, efforts were made to characterise the dominant titles and contents of the supplementary readers available to the junior readers in Nigeria. Three major categories' of thematic areas were found: the folklore, the classic and the topical. The folklore and the classic have been dominated by often-debated extremities which' include loveand jealousy good and evil, honesty and treachery, hope and despair as well as wealth and scarcity. The topical has focused on contradictions like utopia and betrayal; integrity and fraudulence as well as moderator and fanaticism. In addition; the survey revealed a steady rise in the number and impact of the supplementary materials which so far has triggered some basic aspects of lifelong literacy culture in Nigerian learners.en_US
