dc.description.abstract | This study is about the performance of TCP in multiple reliable connections environment with UDP traffic flows using OPNET simulator. The performance analysis is subjected to the bottleneck of competing traffics of UDP and TCP, accessed via a limited router buffer size connected to limited wireless link. Using simulation methodology, the analyses of the different TCP enhancements by comparing them with each other on the different test cases made. The research work establishes facts on the effect of data rate, router buffer size and TCP technology on the behavior of the TCP in the emulation environment in the presence of UDP traffic flows. Based on the analyses of the simulation results, different buffer capacity, data rate and TCP technology have effect on the TCP behavior in different ways. TCP connections suffer significantly because of the adaptability behavior and the number of unnecessary retransmissions is usually higher with large router buffer. Using the selected sizes, smallest router buffer increases the probability of having a retransmitted packet dropped and use of medium router buffer size does not cause as low TCP performance as use of the smallest router buffer, because the larger router buffers avoid several packets drop problem which was present when using the smallest router buffer. Similarly, with selected data rate, moderate data rate offers better performance. For this simulation test-bed, moderate data rate, medium router buffer size with NewReno offers a good performance of TCP followed by Reno Technology. | en_US |
