The effects of malarial infection and cecal coccidiosis upon the total ascorbic acid of the whole blood of young chickens and guinea fowls were studied using colorimetric and microfluorimetic techniques. In both cases there appeared to be slight increases in the blood ascorbic acid level. The significance of the findings are discussed in relation to the results of other studies. The influence of different diets (guinea corn, millet, maize and phizer livestock feed) upon the weight and blood asoorbic acid level of guinea fowls was also investigated. While there appeared to be no definite trend with the ascorbic acid level, the magnitudes of the increase in weight caused by the diets were found to be in the following order:- Millet > Pfizer commercial feed > Maize > Guinea corn.en_US
