Abstract
Digital magnetic data were extracted from existing
half-degree Aeromagnetic map of DANGE (Sheet 29) within the
Sokoto Basin. The sheet is characterized by a prominent E-W
negative anomaly with a magnetic relief of 330 gammas and
aligned along latitude 12°49'. This major E-W Anomaly was
flanked on both sides by magnetic highs.
A 3-D inversion technique was employed to interpret
the "Dange magnetic Anomaly". A best-fit model was obtained
which is represented by a prismatic body having dimensions
(10.11 x 2.94 x 3.32) km3. The causative body was
interpreted as an intrabasement body made up of basic
igneous rocks with a high magnetic susceptibility of 0.0730
(SI Units). It is concluded that the-geodynamic process of
the emplacement of the body are penetration by diapiric
intrusion of mantle rocks followed by ascention to the
lower and upper crust which on cooling forced a downward
deflection of the crust by virtue of its increased density.
