Abstract
Creation of metadata is generally done to ensure continuous and steady identification, location and access to legal information resources particularly, in networked digital information environment such as the web. This paper discusses utilization of metadata standards for facilitating access to legal information resources in the network digital environment by examining the traditional and ICT related knowledge and skills of the metadata librarian in describing and creating access. Nature of Law, its information resources and use were highlighted to provide background insight for the paper. The emergence of metadata was traced to the traditional function of nascent library cataloguing up to the contemporary application of MARC, BIBFRAME and Linked Data Frameworks for resource description, interoperability, access and resource sharing. Metadata Standards such as Dublin Core and Mark-up Languages such as, XML among others suitable for describing digital information resources were captured for informative and illustrative purposes. Furthermore, types and importance of metadata in organization and facilitation of access to law information resources were equally explained. The paper concluded by drawing attention to the roles metadata librarian play in enhancing the discovery, access and utilization of legal information resources
