Abstract
ABSTRACT The procedure for producing a calibration curve for the determination of aluminium, conper, zinc and chromium in trace amounts is described. It involves the use of a sensitive spectrophotometric method based on the formation of intensely coloured micellar improved ternary systems. The systems studied are: Zn - PGR, Cr - PGR as well as Al - CV and Cu - CV. On investigating the interaction between (PGR) and zinc or chromium, the wavelength of maximum absorption of 520nm was recorded for the PGR - Zn system and 414nm for the Cr - PGR system with corresponding extinction coefficient values of 13,66 x 10 3 l.mole-1 cm-1 and 18.94 l.mole-1 cm-1 . From the results, the stoichiometry of the Zn - PGR complex was either Zn(PGR)5 or Zn2PGR but it was impossible to deduce that of the Cr - PGR complex.
