Near Masari/Kafur in Kaduna state an intrusion suspected to be a kimberlite pipe has been investigated using some geophysical survey methods. The electrical resistivity profiling technique delineated the pipe in details, while electrical resistivity soundings and seismic refraction measurements established the surficial layer structure of the pipe. From these measurements it was deduced that the Masari/Kafur kimberlite pipe is between 560 and 660 m long with a maximum width of 140 m and is oriented in a direction east of NE. The surface of the pipe is covered by 6.B m of soil and gravel with seismic velocity ranging from 500 to 870 m/s and mean resistivity of 210 ohm-m. The second layer has a seismic velocity of 2000 to 2.60 m/s, a mean apparent resistivity of about 13 o h m - m and a thickness range af 17 to 34 m. The existence of a third layer was detected. It has n seismic velocity between 3260 and 3450 m/s and average apparent resistivity of over 1000 ohm-m. Correlation of these results with previously measured gravity and magnetic anomalies over the same pipe as well, as with geophysical anomalies reported over known kimberlite pipes in other parts of the world confirm that the Kafur/ Masari is indeed a kimberlite pipe.en_US
