dc.description.abstractThis study examined the impact of Knowledge Management (KM) practices on innovation performance in the Ahmadu Bello University Library Complex (ABULC), Kaduna State. Five research questions guided the study, namely: what KM practices are currently in place in ABULC; what is the level of innovation performance; how do KM practices influence innovation performance; what challenges hinder the effective implementation of KM; and what strategies can improve KM for enhanced innovation. The study adopted a mixed-method research design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. From a population of 468 professional and para-professional staff, a sample of 300 was drawn using Yamane’s (1967) formula and stratified random sampling, of which 210 questionnaires were validly returned and analyzed (70% response rate). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that KM practices were moderately institutionalized (grand mean = 2.99) while innovation performance was also moderate (mean = 3.20), indicating that although KM practices exist, they have not yet translated proportionately into measurable innovation. Knowledge acquisition through training, documentation of policies, and digital storage tools were relatively strong, while knowledge-sharing platforms and the practical application of knowledge for innovation were weak. Challenges included inadequate ICT infrastructure, insufficient funding, and the absence of formal KM policies. The study concludes that the mere presence of KM practices does not guarantee innovation unless effectively structured and integrated. The researcher recommends among others increased funding, capacity building, formal KM policies, a knowledge-sharing culture, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
