Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigates the role of famada users Associations in Kura and Madobi Local Government Areas of Kano State. The instruments that were used for collecting the data in this study were questionniare, interview and records. Oata collected were quantified and tabulated through simple percentages. The population from which the samples was drawn, was from the three fadama sites, and 15 Fadama Users Associations. The sample was proportionally and randomly taken from the Fadama Users Association involved in the study. The study was aimed at examining the Fadam Users Associations in Kura and Madobi Local Government areas and to determine the effectiveness of irrigation agriculture through organised cooperation. It also highlights problems associatd with Fadama Users Associations. An explanatory hypothesis was used to determine the participation of Fadama Farmers in the User Association. It was revealed that the Fadama Users Associations has contirbuted to the welfare of their members. It shows that farmers who joined the Fadama Users Associations earned higher than before the coming of the Fadama Users Associations. For the benefit of the Fadama Users Associations, the study recommends funds in form of loans, and educating the Fadama Users Associations members through extension services as well as providing modern infrastructures like feeder roads.
