| dc.description.abstract | This paper discusses Vygotsky's theory of social interaction as a framework for understanding information seeking of Archives and Records Management Students. In this paper, social interaction was defined as a process through which information seeking takes place. The paper explains Vygotsky's theory of social interaction showing that principles of zone of intervention talks about coming of individual to the aid of another individual, proximal development talks about group learning in potential development and independent learning in actual development level and last principle, more knowledgeable other talks about the help given by more capable person to less capable one. The application of Vygotsky's theory of social interaction to information seeking among archives and records management students show that information is sought in the zone of intervention through coming of individual to the aid of another individual, information is sought in the zone of proximal development through group and independent learning in potential and actual development levels respectively and that information is sought from more knowledgeable person through the assistance given by that person to less capable one. The paper concluded that records and archives management as a discipline can be well understood by students undertaking the programme through information seeking via social interaction with fellow colleagues as well as the teachers who teach the discipline. | |
