Abstract
The study is an assessment of tourism patronage pattern in Kaduna state, Nigeria. The objectives of the study are to explore and develop inventory of tourism centres in Kaduna state, examine tourism patronage and activities of these centres socio-economic characteristics of the staff and tourists in the tourism centres and to identify problems of these centres. The study utilized primary data by means of questionnaire instrumentation. A total of 310 questionnaires were used for the survey. Eight centres being the popular tourists centres in the study area were selected for this study. These are General Hassan Usman Park, Arewa House, Kamuku National Park, Nok Museum, 5th Chukker, Matsirga Water Fall/Fanswan Resort, National Museum and Trappco Ranch Resort. In accordance with the objectives, the study reveals that patronage of the centres are occasionally visited by tourists due to the economic status of the people most of the people that visit the centre are the upper class people. Besides, so many people also go for tourism due to research or studies. Also the study shows that some centres are not for generating revenue rather they are for historical and Research purpose while some centres are not connected with good road network. The study recommended effective management of the tourism centres, accessility of roads to such centres and ensuring security of life and property in this tourism centres. There is need for co-partnership in terms of management between government and private sector and for the public to see tourism as the most attractive recreational activity that one can enjoy to ease off his or her psychological tension.
