Abstract
Academic libraries have undergone significant transformation due to the rapid advancement of information and communication technologies. The traditional role of libraries as repositories of printed materials has evolved into dynamic information centers that provide seamless access to digital resources and innovative information services. Emerging library technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain Technology, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Mobile Technologies, Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), and Library Management Systems have revolutionized information service delivery in academic libraries. These technologies have enhanced information accessibility, improved user experiences, increased operational efficiency, and facilitated remote access to scholarly resources. This opinion paper examines the application of emerging technologies in academic libraries, their impact on information service delivery, challenges associated with their adoption, and future prospects. The paper argues that while emerging technologies offer unprecedented opportunities for enhancing library services, their successful implementation requires adequate funding, skilled personnel, supportive policies, and continuous technological innovation. The paper concludes that academic libraries that embrace emerging technologies will remain relevant in the digital age and continue to serve as indispensable hubs for knowledge creation, dissemination, and utilization.
