The Kalambaina Formation outcrops mainly in the central portion of the Sokoto embankment. The Sokoto embankment forms part of the southeastern flank of the cullender Basin which covers an area of about 700,000 km2 in Mali, Niger and Nigeria, and the Republic of Benin. The mineralogical micro-faunas from the outcropping Kalambaina Formation in the Sokoto embankment embankment are predominantly calcareous with some carbonaceous taxa. The assemblages from all the horizons in the sections comprise calcareous taxa with porcelains to Aline wall structure and some carbonaceous taxa with simple structure. Most of the species encountered have previously been described and provided a useful data base for regional and local paleontological, paleographic and stratigraphic interpretations. The mineralogical assemblages of the Kakalina Formation are characterized by the dominance of local Paleocene species, namely Elphidiella africana, and Operculinoides Bermudian, followed by Rosalia Koenraad, Decides precursors, and Paraphernalia clapper. Other strati graphically important ramification identified and described include Onion geranium, Rosalia of nonconformists, Antonella sp., Pyramidal crass, Promethium sublayer, Pleurostomella Paleocene and Humanitarian amanuensis. Mineralogical species diversity is twenty and this is low enough to suggest shallow water marine environment of deposition.en_US
