dc.description.abstractThis study is an attempt to characterise vegetation changes in Falgore game reserve area of Kano State, in relation to variation in ianduse activities. Both intensive and extensive ground truthing exercise were employed to collect data on the ground vegetation characteristics such as species type, number, density, height trunk diameter, basal area, crown cover and percent vegetation cover, as well as information on Landuse history and practices in the area. The result obtained revealed that part of the study area under cultivation, representing about 33% of the sampled area, have low values of species number, density and percent vegetation cover. In areas where Landuse activities such as grazing, wood exploitation and settlement development predominating (representing about 67% of the sampled area) , the major vegetation characteristics that appear to have been affected include species height, trunk diameter, crown cover and basal area. Results of statistical analysis of the data for the various vegetation characteristics revealed that the vegetation characteristics that are mostly affected by variation in Landuse practice and intensities are species height and trunk diameter suggesting a somewhat strong link between changes in vegetation height and trunk diameter and effects of Landuse activities like grazing, wood exploitation and settlement development.en_US
