dc.description.abstractThis study focuses attention on the effects of assignment method of teaching on students’ performance in art at Effurun in Delta state. The research is based on the descriptive survey method. A total of ten (10) teachers and fifty (50) students from five (5) secondary schools were sampled using the simple random sampling technique. The instrument used in collecting data was the questionnaire and interview. The simple percentage was used in analyzing the data. The research questions addressed are (1) Do teachers understand the different teaching methods in art? (2) will students learn faster and better through the use of assignment method of teaching Art ? (3) what are the problems of using assignment method? and (4) are these teaching methods popular among art teachers in the state ? The study revealed that; (1) teachers in the schools sampled in the state have limited knowledge of teaching methods in art. (2) most teachers make use of assignment method as a method of teaching. (3) student performance is considered good in the use of assignment method and (4) there are a lot of problems facing the proper implementation of using assignment method. These are; There are lack of art materials, lack of parental support and lack of space and time. It is however recommended that teachers can be exposed to proper utilization of assignment method and other methods of teaching through in – service training, seminars, and workshopsen_US
