dc.description.abstractRing and rotor yarns were spun from a blend of cotton fibres using a range of almost similar twist factors. A study was carried out to assess the influence of twist on the physical properties of the two types of yarn, and to use these results to draw a comparison of the properties of the rotor-spun yarns against those of the equivalent ring-spun yarns. From the results obtained it is clear that in addition to the influence of twist, other factors such as fibre properties and machine design also have an influence on the properties of the respective yarns. It is shown that slight changes in twist level influence yarn strength more than yarn breaking extension. Furthermore, the uniformity and linear density of the ring-spun yarns are appreciably influenced by twist level, whereas the rotor-spun yarn is relatively unaffected. Yarn faults and imperfections tend to increase with twist and it is evident that ring-spun yarn displays superiority in terms of strength compared to its rotor-spun equivalent. Finally, the coefficient of twist variation in rotor spun yarns is shown to be higher than that of the equivalent ring-spun.en_US
