- ItemAPPRAISAL OF ABUJA METROPOLITANT MANAGEMENT COUNCIL (AMMC) STRUCTURE AND PROCESS(2014-09) ADAH, Paul DanladiThe research is an appraisal of urban management structure and process in the FCT, Abuja with the aim to assess existing structure and process and determine the effectiveness and appropriateness of the model. It also assessed the adequacy of the structure and process and the challenges to effective operation of the institution with the aim to make recommendations for improvement. Data for the study were obtained from the semi-structured questionnaire, participant observation and document review. The review of literature was made on the concepts, models, scope and process of urban management, urban management and institutional structure of selected cities of the world and criteria for assessing the effectiveness of the structure and process. The study has identified specific areas that need improvement for the effective operation of the institution; integration of core urban management component in the structural composition of the Council, need to develop appropriate law framework for operation, develop strong synergy among government institutions and participatory approach to city management. For effectiveness of the urban management intuition, the study recommend for enlarge institutional structure to embrace vital urban services provision for effective monitoring. There is need to improve upon the coordination, by developing strategy for effective synergy and agencies engaged in urban management of the city. Apart from having oversight function, it is necessary to develop a framework for inter-agency relation and sharing of vital information that could lead to effective performance in services delivery.
