- ItemINFORMATION ANXIETY AMONG INTERNET USERS IN AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY, ZARIA.(2011-01) ABDULKADIR, ALIYUThis study investigates Information Anxiety among Internet Users in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. To achieve the objectives of the study, five research questions and five hypotheses were formulated and were answered and tested. It examined among others; types of Internet access available, kind of Internet resources used, reason for Internet use, types of anxiety exhibited, causes of information anxiety among staff and students. The research adopted survey method; instruments used were questionnaire and online survey monkey. Stratified sampling technique was used to select respondents to accommodate the different strata of the subjects involved in the study. The data collected for the study were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Questionnaires that were returned were analyzed using t-test Independent and percentages. The study discovered that e-mail and e-journal were the most used Internet resources by academic staff and the post graduate students. Research and learning, communication and social networking are the major purpose of using the Internet by the respondents. It was equally revealed that there is significant difference in the causes and frequency of exhibiting anxiety between academic staff and post graduate students in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The study concluded that, both the Academic Staff and Postgraduate Students in Ahmadu Bello University have realized the fact that Internet use is prerequisite for the successful conduct of their research, learning and other scholarly functions So therefore, librarians need to reevaluate user preferences concerning information resources /facilities consulted and purpose of Internet search in other to save the time of the users. It is recommended that users should make it a habit of first checking the library’s webpage before any other site and more computer/Internet training to be organise by the university.
