    IMPACT OF SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM IN CURBING INDISCIPLINE AMONG UPPER BASIC SCHOOL STUDENTS IN KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA

    This study was carried out to investigate the Impact of Social Studies Curriculum in Curbing Indiscipline among Upper Basic School Students in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study was guided with four research questions and four hypotheses in order to achieve the stated objectives. Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Based on the recommendation of Research Advisors (2006), three hundred and fourty six (346) was sampled out from a total population of three thousand-five hundred and eighty (3,580) students at Upper Basic School. A structured questionnaire designed by the researcher was used as the instrument for data collection and a total of three hundred and sixty (360) was administered. Mean and standard was used in answering research questions and one sample t-test was the tools used for testing the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that social studies curriculum has significant impact on curbing examination malpractice; Social Studies curriculum has significant impact on curbing absenteeism; Social Studies curriculum has significant impact on curbing Drug abuse, and Social Studies curriculum has significant impact on minimizing bullying among Upper BasicStudents in Kaduna state, Nigeria. Based on the findings, the study concluded among other things that social studies curriculum is an instrument for curbing examination malpractice among Upper BasicStudents in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study therefore recommended that school authority should adhere to the provision for punishment for students who cheat during examination in social studies curriculum. It is also recommended that the students who absent themselves from the school without being authorized should be sanctioned appropriately to deter students who may want to indulge in absenteeism. The study also recommended that regular briefings and sensitization of students on the negative effects of drugs should be encouraged by the school authority and the students engaged in bullying of other students should be punished appropriately by the relevant school authorities.

    ASSESSMENT OF PROVISION AND USAGE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) FACILITIES ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA

    The study is to assess the provision and usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities on the students’ academic performance in secondary school students in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Five specific objectives, research questions and null hypotheses were formulated based to guide the study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design with the population of 12488 and sample size of 378. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire tagged ―Assessment of the Provision and Usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Facilities on Students’ Academic Performance (APUICTFSAP) which contained 50 items. The data collected from the field were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency and mean scores to answer all research questions. Inferential statistics of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to test all the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that Provision and usage of computers influence students’ academic performance by making them have access to educational resources, interact and collaborate on academic project and improve their critical thinking and stakeholders have similar views to that effect (p=221). Provision and usage of projectors influence students’ academic performance through enhancing their understanding, interest and participation and promote collaborative learning among students and difference on the opinions of stakeholders on this (p=219). Provision and usage of microphones influence students’ academic performance by helping them to hear teacher clearly during teaching, improve communication, confidence and clarity of instruction and difference that exist on the stakeholders’ perception on that (p=412). Provision and usage of software facilities influence students’ academic performance by enhancing them access to diverse learning resources, understanding, students’ engagement in learning activities and help them to develop critical thinking and stakeholders hold the same opinions on the influence (p=114). Provision and usage of Internet facilities influence students’ academic performance by making them have access to a wide range of educational resources, influences students' ability to conduct research for academic assignments, increased students’ engagement in online learning activities and motivate and explore students to learn beyond traditional classroom materials (p=119). The study concluded that provision and usage of computers, projectors and microphones improve students’ academic performances in secondary schools in Kaduna State. Software and internet facilities also enhance the academic performances of student in secondary schools in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The implication of these findings is that as many times as computers, projectors, microphones, software and Internet facilities were provided and used for teaching and learning, academic performances of secondary school students will improve. The study also recommended among others that Kaduna Stategovernment should make efforts to provide more computers and school authorities should ensure they are adequately used by the teachers for teaching and learning in secondary schools in Kaduna State. Kaduna Stategovernment should provide adequate projectors and alternative sources of power to use when the need arises by the teachers and students for teaching and learning in secondary schools in Kaduna State. Kaduna Stategovernment should make efforts to provide more microphones and school authorities should ensure they are adequately used by the teachers for teaching and learning in secondary schools in Kaduna State.

    ADOPTION OF LEGAL DEPOSIT STATUTORY LAW ON ELECTRONIC INFORMATION RESOURCES FOR UTILIZATION OF DIGITAL REPOSITORY OF NATIONAL LIBRARY OF NIGERIA

    This study investigated Adoption of Legal Deposit Statutory Law on Electronic Information Resources for Utilization of Digital Repository of National Library of Nigeria to achieve this seven research objectives were raised, among others to: find out the types of electronic resources are covered with legal deposit statutory law by National Library of Nigeria, identify the types of digital repository available for adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources of National Library of Nigeria, explore the extent in which the strategies employed are relevant for the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources for utilization of Digital Repository by National Library of Nigeria. Quantitative research methodology was adopted using cross-sectional survey strategy. 297 questionnaires were administered and 161 retuned and found worthy for analysis. The study found that the types of electronic information resources are covered with legal deposit statutory law by National Library of Nigeria among others were e-audio visual materials, e-almanacs, e-annual reports, e-books, e-compendium of conferences, econference papers, e-gazettes and e-maps. The study reveals that the type of digital repository available is National Repository @power by Eko-Konnect. The study found that type of strategies available among others were introducing e-policy for submitting books to National Library of Nigeria, collection base of quality of information publications, digital deposits of information through dedicated National Library information systems, digital registration of the incoming deposits of information, The study established that the extent in which the strategies employed is highly relevant for the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources for utilization of digital repository of National Library of Nigeria. The study found that the extent in which the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources is highly facilitates visibility of information for utilization of Digital Repository. The study also found that the extent in which the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources is highly facilitates access of information resources for utilization of Digital Repository of National Library of Nigeria. The study reveals that extent in which the adoption of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources is highly facilitates use of information resources in digital repository. The study established that the challenges faced while adopting of legal deposit statutory law on electronic information resources among others were lack of clear policy for digital deposition of information; lack of awareness surrounding digital information policy; and lack of skilled staff for adoption of digital repository. The study concluded that the adoption of the Legal Deposit Statutory Law on electronic information resources has significantly advanced the utilization of the Digital Repository of the National Library of Nigeria. This initiative has expanded the scope of information coverage, ensuring that electronic publications and intellectual resources are systematically preserved and made accessible for national and international research purposes. The policy facilitates seamless access to electronic resources, enhances the visibility of Nigerian scholarly outputs, and supports compliance with global standards for digital repository management. The study recommended that, more publicity and awareness should be created on clear policy for digital deposition of information, emphasis should be maintained on the strategies applied for sustainability of digital deposition of information.

    ASSESSMENT OF UTILIZATION AND SATISFACTION WITH PRIMARY HEALTHCARE SERVICES AMONG WOMEN OF CHILDBEARING AGE IN PLATEAU STATE, NIGERIA

    Primary healthcare service in Nigeria isbeen distributed to the grassroots level in order to provide a door step access to healthcare services for individuals and families living within the rural areas of the country. Primary healthcare facilities and trained human resources are made available by the government for every local government area to serve as the first level of contact between the people and the healthcare system and to provide integrated healthcare services for health promotion in Nigeria. Utilisation of healthcare services and being satisfied with the services rendered will contribute greatly to addressing most of our existing health challenges. Hence, the purpose of this study was to assess utilization and satisfaction with primary healthcare services among women of childbearing age in Plateau State, Nigeria. To achieve this purpose a descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for this study consist of 321,506 of women of childbearing age in Plateau State. A sample of 420 women of childbearing age was used for the study. This was achieved through a multi-stage sampling procedure which comprised of stratified, simple random, systematic, purposive and proportionate sampling techniques. A researcher‘ developed questionnaire was used for data collection. Out of the 420 copies of the questionnaire distributed in the field 409 (97.4%) were retrieved and considered valid for analyses. Descriptive statistics of frequencies and percentages were used to describe the demographic characteristics of the respondents. Mean and standard deviations were used to answer the research questions. Inferential statistics of one-sample t-test was used to test formulated hypotheses1, on utilisation of primary healthcare units by women of childbearing (WCBA) age in Plateau State.2, on satisfaction with primary healthcare services among WCBA in plateau state and 3, on the types of primary healthcare services rendered to WCBA in Plateau State Primary Healthcare Units while Pearson Product Moment Correlation were used to test the formulated hypotheses 4, on the relationship between utilisation and satisfaction with PHC services among WCBA in Plateau State, Nigeria.The results of the study revealed that, utilization of healthcare services provided by Primary Health Care units for women of childbearing age in Plateau State, Nigeria is significant (p = 0.000). Satisfaction with primary healthcare services among women of childbearing age in Plateau State, Nigeria is significant (p = 0.000). Healthcare services provided by Primary Health Care centres for women of childbearing age in Plateau State, Nigeria are significant (p = 0.000). There is a significant relationship between utilization and satisfaction of primary healthcare services among women of childbearing age in Plateau State, Nigeria (p = 0.000). It was therefore concluded that women of childbearing age in Plateau state utilize health care services provided by Primary Health Care Centres. That women of child bearing age in Plateau State are satisfied with healthcare services rendered at the primary health centres. Based on the following conclusions, it was recommended thathealth educators should intensify their enlightenment/education campaigns on Maternal and child care so as to encourage women of child bearing age in the state to sustain the existing utilization of health care services provided by primary health care centres in the state, all the Hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance.
