Abstract
The concept of Total Quality Management is becoming well known
and benefits of a successful Total Quality process have been
demonstrated by many well known organizations. A fundamental
basis of Total Quality Management is a culture of continuous
improvement and it is an endless process whose aims is to improve
productivity and services continuously. The study examines “The
impact of Total Quality Management on motivation and
performance”. The research examined Total Quality Management as
adopted by Nigeria Customs service and indeed other
organizations, success achieved and problems encountered in the
process of implementing Total Quality Management on motivation,
and performance in N.C.S was reviewed.. The methodology of the
study utilized a self-administered questionnaire to gather relevant
data from respondents (Nigeria Customs Service) understudy. A
sample was selected from the total population using a simple
random sampling technique. A total population of 500-sample size
was selected from the Nigeria Customs service staff. The test of
hypothesis was done using chi-square ( 2) method. It was
discovered from the study that challenges of development are
possible through practical and effective implementation of T.Q.M
techniques in organizations. By the result of this analysis, it is
however observed that apart from implementation of T.Q.M, Other
factors can contribute to the development of the organization
hence, staff motivation. Also, the implementation of T.Q.M in
Nigeria Customs Service and total business performance. In
summary, the performance of an organization like N.C.S is one of
clearest indicators of the validity of its strategies and a vital
predictor of whether it will be relevant or remain business.
